Healthy nutrition like in nature

For our Getzoo dwarf hamster food we have orientated ourselves on the extensive diet of nature. Only seeds, plant parts and insects were selected that occur in the natural habitat or are similar to the flora in the steppes. Therefore, e.g. protein from water was deliberately avoided, but the needs of domesticated dwarf hamsters were also taken into account. In this way, we can guarantee a balanced and healthy diet for our charges.

With nature as a model

Most dwarf hamster species live in the barren and dry steppe and desert regions of Asia. The landscapes are characterised by sandy soil, grasses, wild herbs, bushes and only a few trees.

The seeds

In the wild, dwarf hamsters feed mainly on seeds and only a few other plant parts and insects. The basis of the dwarf hamster diet is mealy grass seeds, which we cover extensively in the feed with ryegrass, red fescue, bunchgrass, timothy, Kentucky bluegrass and meadow fescue. Numerous millet varieties, which belong to the sweet grasses and have a long history in Asia, form the basis of the Getzoo dwarf hamster food together with the grasses. But also important oleaginous seeds should not be missing from the menu in a balanced proportion, e.g. thistle or nettle seeds.

Plant parts

Dwarf hamsters look for a few plant parts as variety in addition to the numerous seeds. They prefer the shoots of fresh grasses and wild herbs, as well as tasty delicate flowers such as cornflowers, which also thrive on dry soils such as steppes.

Protein

For dwarf hamsters, a balanced protein diet is essential to provide enough energy. Especially when rearing they need a rich supply: in nature they eat numerous insects and maggots, as well as invaders. In Getzoo Dwarf Hamster Food we cover their protein needs with dried mealworms and fly maggots.

Diabetes

Unfortunately, some dwarf hamster species and hybrids (mixed species) are prone to diabetes. Therefore, Getzoo Dwarf Hamster Food does not contain unnecessary additional carbohydrates and uses ingredients that have a positive effect on the sugar level.
