On the trail of nature

100% on the trail of nature

At getzoo.de we have put a lot of thought into the development of our products. We have tapped into many different sources of knowledge to produce the best possible and species-appropriate products for rodents. We have drawn on the wealth of information available from animal welfare organisations and are grateful for the feedback we receive on our products. A species-appropriate pet and a species-appropriate rodent husbandry is very close to our hearts. Too often we see that rodents, because they are supposedly small animals, are kept in far too cramped accommodation or completely unsuitable accessories are used.

At Getzoo, we therefore rely on the natural raw material wood, which can be used by any rodent without hesitation and which we are therefore happy to use. We pay particular attention to the non-toxicity of the wood used. For example, there are coniferous woods that can quickly become dangerous for our dear rodents, because they can still resinate and the resin that comes out is toxic for the rodents. Therefore, we only use raw woods whose bark has been removed and which do not resinate.

Rodent nutrition a specialist area in itself

The nutrition of rod ents is also a very large area that we have dealt with for a long time. We have received a lot of information from the University of Bonn about the scientifically proven recommended diet for the different rodent species. The hamster diet, for example, is completely different from that of a rabbit or a degus. Therefore, we have dealt with this intensively and have also received a lot of further information on nutrition and feeding habits from Hamsterhilfe and other voluntary associations. We are constantly developing the Getzoo food further, as there are definitely new findings in this area. Every now and then a supposedly excellent ingredient in the feed mix can turn out to be diabetes-inducing and we then of course change this or add this information to the respective product page.

Sustainability in rodent husbandry

Sustainability does not pass us by as rodent keepers and producers of rodent accessories. Wood is a renewable raw material that is also biologically degradable or can be burnt to serve as fertiliser, etc. We therefore focus on the use of wood in rodent husbandry. Therefore, we mainly rely on the use of wood when it comes to the production of our products. Furthermore, we only use harmless adhesives and do without adhesives altogether as far as this is possible. As a rule, you will receive your Getzoo products untreated, one of the exceptions being the Getzoo wooden wheel, which we treat with a clear varnish beforehand. This is absolutely harmless for the animals and the environment. We always ship our products as space-saving but safe as possible. We do not use plastic or other non-biodegradable packaging materials and use the DHL Green delivery service. Most of the parcel trolleys used are hybrid cars and therefore emit even fewer exhaust gases. Here, too, we strive for constant further development; if there is a more sustainable way to package and ship our products, we will change over.

Products tailored for hamsters, rabbits and co.

All products you find in the getzoo.de online shop have a specific purpose. We do not develop and sell products that are merely luxury items and "nice to have", but rather the products have an effective added value for rodent owners but also for rodents. When developing our wheels, it was particularly important to protect the backs of hamsters, mice, degus, chinchillas and co. The running surfaces are especially gently processed and have no grids, but a closed running surface. The cork wheels were developed to effectively dampen the running noises of hamsters and co. Furthermore, the houses and living mazes for rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters etc. follow the same principle. The large selection comes from the fact that different rodents have individual needs. In addition, there are also different group sizes for rabbits, guinea pigs, mice and degus. It makes sense to offer different sized housing, as would be the case in nature.
